Your words are so true. I’d even go one step further that people don’t even bother having anything anymore. Of the three recent deaths of friends relatives, only one had a visitation and service. The others chose something more family oriented.
Also visitation wasn’t a thing back in NZ - and still isn’t. You have just a service. However some Maori have bigger celebrations including open casket at home or the marae.
