You tackle this dilemma from a side that I am unfamiliar with. From your perspective you have a point. From my perspective, it's disheartening. There's a distinct difference between being here as a hobbyist versus a career. I'm certainly thankful I'm the former - although it is still unmotivating to write for the hell of it. Is there a place for me?!
