You didn't owe her a thing if she never asked you in the first place. If I want someone to join me at an event I ask them first then offer to buy the tickets with a clear message that they're paying!! If I want to gift it, I'll buy them without asking. Isn't that just common sense?! ( clearly not in your friends case!)
