Woah. This provoked some angst. Was not expecting so much venom when scrolling through the comments.

Unfortunately, when a parent behaves like this one did, their kids learn that it’s ok to just show up and take advantage of people too.

Never in a million years would I have pulled that stunt - and thankfully no one did it to me. I’d have been miffed too.
