I’ve always tried to express sympathy without sounding cliched or trite so those words are not my go to. Many people find it hard to say what they feel.
Im certain anyone who does CPR is stuck with the visual forever after and possibly feels responsible for not saving the persons life. It was very thoughtful of you to thank him for his efforts.
