I kinda want to disagree with that as an Apple user for years: they change their chargers for new phones and make their older hardware almost impossible to use as the newer lines roll out; can’t get supplied for them.

I don’t think it's unique to Apple — appliances and cars are the same. I upgraded my Ford SUV lease last year and as soon as I put my winter tyres on, a warning light showed. Turned out the sensors on my ‘new’ tyres, an upgraded version of my ‘old’ SUV, did not support the computer technology — and it was going to cost ME to upgrade to turn the warning light off.
