As an immigrant anglophone living in Quebec for 26 years, it amazes me that the Govt is still on this case when the laws that are already in place encourage learning of the French language. As a nurse, I had to do the OLF exam for example. My children went to private English schools but 2/3 are fluently bilingual. I find it's such a narrow minded approach when English is the #1 dominant language worldwide. Do they purposely want to restrict bilingualism for fear the province's younglings will diss French and take off to greener pastures? Personally, I wish they would spend more money rectifying the abysmal state of the healthcare system than worrying whether a commercial sign respects their silly language rules and wasting money developing yet another bill to enhance the already well preserved status of French here.
