As a nurse I know that even the death of a perfect stranger can be emotional. But as I get older - and with numerous death experiences- I’ve certainly gone from being terrified of dying to the old shoulder shrug of inevitability. It’s not now a matter of time of ‘if’ but ‘when’.
Indeed, when I hear of car accidents or young ones born with a death sentence overhead, it’s heartbreaking. But someone else’s situation or bad luck now helps me appreciate how lucky I am to have surfed through life relatively unscathed.
